A Tribute to Mark Linkous (September 9, 1962 – March 6, 2010)

Mark Linkous was one of Radio Obsession’s favorite musicians.  We were devastated to hear that he had taken his own life earlier this month.  We love the beautiful music that he brought to the world, and we are thankful for him.

The album “Good Morning Spider” by Mark Linkous’ band Sparklehorse is our current must have, “Desert Island Pick” Lp, which ordinarily is a fun feature of the show.  We have played, one by one, songs one through eight over the last few weeks, and we will continue with track nine on today’s show.

This radio tribute features music from Sparklehorse’s four major album releases, the “In The Fishtank 15” collaboration with fennesz, and the Dark Night of The Soul project featuring Sparklehorse, Danger Mouse and film director David Lynch.

The Dark Night of The Soul project features songs written by Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse but sung by different vocalists, including David Lynch himself, who sings two songs on the record. A book of photographs taken by David Lynch is intended to accompany the music.

Due to a dispute between artist Danger Mouse and record company EMI, the Dark Night of The Soul has been held up from being released but is finally scheduled, ironically, to come out in the Summer of 2010.  [In a cool move by the artists and National Public Radio, you can hear all of the tracks from Dark Night of The Soul at ]
